IIncentives to sustainable use

Biodiversity as a resource always constitutes a development opportunity, as long as its benefit is used within a structure of sustainable use and equitable distribution of costs and benefits, both inter and intra generations. The Humboldt Institute has initiated an process of incentivation of productive activities through the identification of demand and supply conditions for different goods and services linked to local communities and international markets.

The sustainable production of primary crafts within this contexts is being developed through a convention with the FES Foundation and Artesanías de Colombia in order to identify products and services of commercial interest for global markets. This last aspect has special importance, as it binds the BIOTRADE initiative of UNCTAD with the Exterior Commerce Ministry and Proexport.
