Intellectual property and biodiversity
The Alexander von Humboldt Institute presents
the publication "Intellectual property and biodiversity - intellectual property in
the World Trade Organization and its relationship with the Convention on Biological
Diversity". The main purpose of this document is to bring closer conflicting
positions regarding biodiversity an IPR, by offering an objetive analysis of the different
points of view, and promote a constructive reflection about fundamental issues affecting
the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
Cartagena Protocol on biosafety
In accordance with the precautionary approach contained
in Principle 15 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, the objective of
this Protocol is to contribute to ensuring an adequate level of protection in the field of
the safe transfer, handling and use of living modified organisms resulting from modern
biotechnology that may have adverse effects on the conservation and sustainable use of
biological diversity, taking also into account risks to human health, and specifically
focusing on transboundary movements.
Checklist of endangered
species of Colombia
The Conservation Biology Program is conducting research
about endangered species of Fauna and Flora in Colombia. With the purpose of exchanging
commentaries and enriching our work, we introduce the preliminary checklist of endangered
fauna species for the following taxa: mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. We also
present the Preliminary Checklist of endangered plants of Colombia. The information is
available in spanish version.
